The JUNE-BUG STORY

To make a long story short...I came from a family where you "waste not - want not".  You don't throw away something that is useable.  You don't use more of something than you need and you live contentedly with what you have.  I came across an opportunity to try to re-market 'new', but discontinued wedding gowns. 

I invited my cousin Joan, to join me in re-inventing ways to upcycle the gowns.   I decided that the best approach was to utilize the raw materials already in the dress and to keep the dress intact as much as possible, rather than taking them totally apart to remake other items.

We took each gown and critiqued it very carefully.   Joan's eye for detail and her Fashion Designer credentials kicked in.  What could be done to make it more current or appealing?  We set to work (for over a year)!  In some cases that meant removing excess or dull beading, removing sleeves, taking out extra crinoline, shortening to tea or knee length, etc.

Some of the gowns required little or no changes.  We found them to be quite gorgeous; it was best to leave those dresses untouched.   Things have a wonderful way of coming back in style.  The classics, of course, are timeless. 

"SLOW FASHION" is about using hand and machine skills the old-fashioned way - one stitch at a time, carefully executed with technique and keen craftsmanship.   Over the years I have researched historical patterns, trends, fabrics and lace.  I love seeing the whole picture come together.  Helping you narrow down your best dress style, the right fabric texture, color and embellishments (if any) is a satisfying passion of mine.
